Problems with header install on 70RS...

So far ive been through 3 different sets of headers for this car and none of them have fit. The first set was supposedly for an elcamino, and i really didnt think it would fit, but i tried and failed. The second set are hedman long tubes, but those wouldnt fit because of the clutch linkage and because it kept hitting the k member. The last set i tried was a set of universal shorty for sbc camaros, and those wouldnt fit because of the clutch linkage. I would imagine that the hedman headers would fit (since i ordered them specifically for the car), and it may be possible but would i have to jack up the motor to get these to fit? I really need somebody to tell me that theyve installed headers on an early second gen, manual trannsmission car. Any response is greatly appreciated....

Yea man, sometimes on header install's you have to take out a motor mount bolt and jack the motor up enough to drop the headers in.

Im puttin a 468 in my 79 and ive got 2 1/8" primaries and 3 1/2" collectors...im gonna be doin some MAJOR engine jackin to get those suckers in!

The drivers side of the car needs to be jacked up and you go in from the bottom. I had plain old flowtech $99 headers on my sbc 74Z(4 speed). AS long as the plugs are straight and not angled, they'll go right in. I take it, it is a sbc? because the motor is not in your sig but you mentioned sbc shorties. If you need the BBC let me know.

motor vin should be behind the alt on a small plate should have like 3 or 4 munbers and 3 letters like 1234 cmx. On the back of the block driver's side where the block meets the tranny you'll find a long number like 6-9 digits long, if it ends 010 means it's a 4 bolt main.....If you need mero let me know I'll get some more specific infor..in a rush.

yes you should. It might have some grime and caked on stuff there but use a little carb cleaner.

again: the number behind the alt will tell you what the block came from
and the number on the drivers side where the tranny bolts up to the block will tell you waht kind of block it is ..ie 4 bolt mains If you get the numbers I'll run them for you, but I wont be back untill monday.
