pre 87 heads with LT1 headers

Does anyone know if LT1 headers will bolt on to an engine with pre 87 sbc heads? are the exhaust ports the same?

I would imagine they would, i think 4th gen lt1 heads are basically same except for the internal parts like the water passages. It is possible they would fit, but headers are more expensive I believe. Good set of hooker comps or super comps for a regular small block might be better

I wanted to go with LT1 headers since I am putting this engine in a 97 Trans Am. I would figure they would clear the engine bay just like an LT1 would. what do you think?

LT-1's have an extra hole at the front and rear of the head. This hole was added to most all 87 and newer heads and some pre-87 heads. If the headers were created to follow the stander lt-1 exhasut bolt pattern it will use these extra holes rather than the hole right next to the #1 and #8 ports. So at most you may have to drill two new holes, one in each header. it would be best to check this before sticking everything in the car.
