Powerglide help?

I need to know what a 1967 powerglide transmission is rated at performace wise.

will it perform pretty good behind a 400hp 350ci?

can It be beefed up for HIGH performance......I heard they are highly desireable w/ drag racers.

Yeah but those are built powerglides for drag racing... in stock trim for a street car... they suck performancewise. (Although I loved my '68 RS with a power"slide".) They do have aluminum housings and are fairly light though. Depending on what your planning to do with the car (street or race) makes the real difference.

They are fairly bulletproof though.

They're reasonably tough, light, and don't suck up a lot of HP, but with a 1.76 or 1.82 first gear, it's like starting out in second on a turbo 350/400. I think the higherst horse/tq engine that cam e with a 'glide was a 340 horse 409. Depending on the budget, I'd go with a turbo 350, or an overdrive trans ans some steep rear gears.

Thanks for replying. I already ran a th-350 behind my 350ci but I threw a u-joint......lost my driveshaft.....and cracked the bellhousing on the tranny.

I found that my th-350 shifted very lazily and since it is now broke wanted something more performance orientated.

What is a stock powerglide worth if I wanted to sell it?

If it were me I'd rebuild the T350 and put a shift kit in it. I have a '65 Impala SS with a powerglide, and if the car wasn't all original, I'd put a 700r4 and some 4:11's in it!

I'd go with a Th400 if you never want to worry about transmission problems again. They do take a bit more power to turn as opposed to a TH350, but are *much* beefier internally. It's whats going behind the 413" small block in my Z.
