I was wondering if anybody had some information on how one would put an LS1 into an 81 F-body. It's actually an 81 Turbo Trans Am. The engine needs a rebuild badly, the turbo doesnt work worth a crap and who wants a 200hp turbo engine? I mean, seriously... its a V8, 301 ci, and 200hp... thats american turboing for ya. I'd like to put in an LS1 as its lighter and of course has over 300hp stock. The car is not California smog exempt so it needs all the emissions, thats why i wont bother with that 301. Any help would be nice! Thanks!

You may get some information here, but if you check LS1Tech, they have a hybrid section, and those guys have swapped LS1s into just about anything that you can imagine.

FWIW, to be legal in California you're going to need to swap in the computer along with all the emissions for the LS1. Then once you get everything running "clean" you're going to need to go to a referee station to have it smogged because of the "engine change". (Words the CARB will understand.)
It won't be cheap anyway you slice it.

I have an 82 z28 it has a carbed 350 in it. T-tops, disk brakes, all around power windows it was the top of the line model that year and wanted to do an ls1 swap into it. I was wondering what would be needed to pass smog here in california. LS1tech has a good conversion site, i enjoy their conversions. My brother is doing a 71 cutlass supreme ls1 swap he's doing his research there.
