no oil to the rockers?

A friend of mine has a rebuilt 400 small-block in a 73 firbird. The oil pressure gauge reads 25 @ idle and 60 while cruising, but there is no oil getting to the rockers at idle, only when he revs it. What could cause this?

Re: no oil to the rockers?

I had a problem similar to this with one of my cars with a small block chevy. The engine was freshly rebuilt but no one installed the oil galley plugs in the front of the engine. There are 3 holes (about 1/2 inch in diameter) behind the cam gear that should have plugs in them. Without those plugs- you will get basically NO oil to the rockers. I put the plugs in and have plenty of oil to the top end now. Good luck.
