need some timing advice

I need some advice on what my initial timing and total timing should be on my engine. I tried calling Crane but gave up after 20 minutes on hold (had to leave). Thats the spec card. I appreciate advice

Ah yes, the old Crane 272 Energizer cam. One of my favorites.

On the timing- it depends. Every engine wants something a little different depending on compression, head design, cam, gearing, etc, etc. And I've found that the stock timing marks can be way off regardless. Start conservative- 32* total (initial plus maximum centrifugal). make sure the centrifugal is "all in" by about 3000 RPMs. More isn't wanted or needed beyond that RPM. Then start to work from there. Keep bumping it up 2 degrees at a time until the car slows or detonation pops up, then back it down 2-4* from there. You can also bring in the advance RATE with weaker springs to get the timing "all in" at lower RPMs- 2800, 2600, etc. See what it wants. Getting the timing really dialed in well can make a BIG difference in performance- the kinda difference you don't need a dyno to tell you it's running stronger!

Check out an article about tuning your HEI distributor for performance over on thirdgen.org. Even if you aren't using an HEI the timing curve info still applies.

34-36 all in by 3200 rpm, 16-20 initial, if it will shut off by itself!
