Need help!

I found a good deal on a 350 chevy to replace the 305 in my camaro. Its out of a chevy truck it'll be compatable to my 350tb trany, right? Will i have to change the mounts. It's a fuel injected engine but if i change out the intake and the carb there won't be any real problems right? I have an intake and carb off of a 1970 Camaro. The guy I am buying the engine from said i need an electric fuel pump, is there any difference from the older ones? Also if I do need an electric fuel pump what is the best way to run the fuel pump? I'm also removeing the floor pans, what is the best way to get those out? Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the board.

What year is the truck engine? If it has Vortec heads (excellent heads) it will need a compatible intake with different intake bolt angles. TH350 will bolt right up. Thing to look out for is flexplate/starter compatibility. If your 305 has the small 153 tooth flexplate (or flywheel) and the 350 has the big 168 tooth flexplate, your original starter won't tranfer over. Easy way to tell which size you have is by the mounting bolt pattern of the starter bolts. If they are in line, it's the small plate. If they are staggered, it's the big one. If engines have different sizes, just use the starter that comes with the 350. If it doesn't come with the starter and you need one for the big plate, trade your straight bolt one for a staggered bolt one at the parts store.

You can't just swap flexplates, newer engines have a crank with a one piece rear main seal that has a different bolt pattern.

Mounts off your old engine will transfer. You only need an electric pump if you run the fuel injection as injection runs on higher pressure. If you stay carb, can keep your mechanical pump.

The dipstick is on the opposite side on newer SBCs. I've swapped older engines into newer chassis where the exhaust manifolds blocked off the dipstick hole. Might not be an issue in your case, but check anyway.

The truck is an early 90s and it does has the vortec heads. Thank you for all the help. I don't remember the exact year hes got it writen down for me I'm geting the engine today. The engine comes with a starter so I think I'll be ok. So theres no difference in a truck to a car engine everything will transfer over untill im ready to do some proformance parts? Also what is the best way to get my floor pans out? Thanks again!

Chances are you will have to change oil pans b/c the truck one will be different than the Camaro one. You can prob switch it right off of the 305 already in the Camaro, not sure.

Vortec heads are great budget street/strip heads.

Alright thanks. What makes the vortec heads so great? Do they do something different then the normal heads? Thanks
