My 1st post

Hi Camaro people,
I am happy to have found a board with some nice Camaros. I have a 69 ss Camaro rag which I am about to take to the next level. My Art Carr 200r4 is on its way. It now has a new 350/330 crate motor, turbo 400, & a 355 12 bolt.
Does anyone have offset and backspace dimentions for American Racing torque thrust II 17"x 8 front 17x91/2 rear rims. American says the rears must be custom built but I have seen them on many Camaros. I would guess the coupe and convertable are different.

I will try to attach my web page. Thanks for the help.
Brian

17x8 with 4.75" of BS on the front, 17x9.5 with 5.5" of BS on the rear.

What brake setup do you have? You say it's an SS, so I'm assuming disk front, drum rear.

why are you pulling the 400? and if you went with the 700r4 instead of the 200 you wouldn't need a new drive shaft the 200 has a shorter tailshaft

My guess is the reason he is pulling the 400 is to gain overdrive. Why the 200 over the 700.... another guess would be that fact that the 700R has a huge ratio jump from 1st to 2nd gear. The 200 has a smaller ratio between gear changes.

700r4 3.06 1.62 1.00 0.70
200r4 2.74 1.57 1.00 0.67
th350 2.52 1.52 1.00
th400 2.48 1.48 1.00

Thats just my guess.......

Thanks for the fast answers guys. The car does have discs/drums.
I am swapping the turbo 400 for a built 200r for the od, 60mph @3000 w/355s are killing me. Lower first gear. The 200 is a direct bolt up and the drivshaft will work. Just the yolk must be changed. The 700 is a lot more work to install I was told.

Does it matter on the wheels if the car is a convertable? Is it worth building the 17x9 1/2 or buying 17x8 front and rear off the shelf?

Angel, please tell me how to permanently post my link the way you did.
Thanks again.

I just went to your page, right clicked the address bar, and selected "copy". Then I right clicked in my response and pasted.

As much as I love the 2004R, it is not a direct replacement when removing a TH400. It will bolt in with the TH400 crossmember for sure, but the yoke AND driveshaft length is different. The 2004R is the same length as a TH350/powerglide/4-speed setup, but the TH400 trans is longer than all of these. That means your TH400 driveshaft will be too short, even with a yoke change.

It's still my recommended way to go, had one behind 800+ rwhp and loved it. Just didn't want you to be surprised when you need to have a longer driveshaft made.

Yes, I understand your thinking. But I haven't seen a TH400 that was the same length as those other trannies. There is a long tailshaft TH350 that's about the same as a TH400, but your normal passenger car TH400 is a few inches longer than the TH350/powerglide.
