LT1 swap, transmission questions

I've been thinking. I know, my friends have warned me about that, but . . .

I thought if I was considering aftermarket fuel injection for my car, maybe I should consider swapping in an LT1. I read through some of the info on this forum and on camaro.net and I still have a couple of questions. First, if I only want to swap the motor to start with, is there any reason that I cannot keep my m-21 trans until I decide what to do next. Also, if I found a good deal on a vette LT1 and ZF trans together, how bad of an idea would it be to try the ZF? If it might work, where can I find specs for the ZF?

Thanks

You can use any GM trans behind the LT1, it will bolt up. But, you have to get the correct, externally balanced flywheel or flexplate to match the LT1. I have a T350 behind my LT1 in my 68.
The LT1/ZF would be a nice combo, I think it is about the same size externally as the T56, but has a little higher torque rating. Don't know specifics tho!
