If you are talking about the 70 LS6, it is externally identical to a 396, which was optional in the 69, so all you have to do is get mounts, headers, etc., for a 396.

If you are talking about the 2001+ LS6...good luck. Actually there are guys putting LS1's in earlier chassis, so it's doable, but involved.

wasn't it Year One that recently put a LS6 in a '69?
Do a search in the archives here, and at www.nastyz28.com - I think there are several threads on putting the modern LS engines into a 1st/2nd gen camaro, and what is nessacary.

re

i appreciate it guys! it is the 2001+ LS6 i am wanting to drop in. i want a efi car with a lot of power and this is what i came up with. how involved is it?

i also came up with a 489 stoker motor with the BB ram jet. in ya'll's opinion, which would be more effecient-time wise, and money wise, and power wise. i've heard opinions from both sides here in p'cola and i jsut wanted some outside opinions.

any traditional small, or big block will be easier time and money-wise to drop in, since the chassis was designed for them.
The LS6, however, is an absolutely incredible motor. There are people running well into the 12's in 4th gen cars with heads and cam - nothing major done to the engine!
The LS6 will give you the best in EFI technology, fuel economy, idle and driveability, etc. It also has a superb powerband - just read anybodys description of riding in a LS car.

If your budget can handle it, I'd go LS6. The difficulty is going to be the same as putting in a EFI LT1 motor, plus having to fit the motor to the crossmember. I forget the details, but I think the accessory drive is pretty close to the crossmember, and there is an issue with oil pan clearance, but there are parts hitting the market to do this, and they are mostly aimed at putting the motor in 1st gen camaros, so you're not on your own.

re

thanks a lot! that is just what i wanted to here, although i am torn between that and a 489 stroker either carb'd or ram jet.

Check this out http://www.lnjstreetrods.com/ . They show pictures and give details on what it takes to put an LS1/6 motor in a first gen. I think street and performance sells adapter plates to allow you to use stock first gen motor mounts now. And American Touring Specialties offers a T56 conversion package with a crossmember and everything else needed to instal the tranny. You can find a link to there site on protouring.com. Later.
