LS1 sawp in a 1969 Camaro???

I have heard of a few 69 Camaro's swapping the LS1 engine into there old Chevy.I have an old 396 Big Block bored .30 over to 402cubes,forged pistons and crank,595 lift cam, stock ported oval port heads, with 4:11 gears and its pretty much never been driven on the street except for a couple of years ago.I have a 150 HP nitrous system on it and i love iNOS.I don't know if swapping a LS1 would be to expensive a project and give me the Horsepower and opportunity to run a nitrous system on it that would rival my 402 big block .Then again the LS1 would give me better street drivability and be much better on gas mileage.Does the LS1 have alot of potential being its only a 350 and how hard would it be to swap in my big block car???

LS1s have a HUGE power potential. In the newer camars with a 125 shot its almost garunteed to be an 11 second car and those things are PIGS at 3600lbs. LS1s are also a LOT lighter than big blocks so the weight almost makes up for the power difference in and of itself. It will drop in a 1st gen camaro fairly easy, as far as size goes. I am not sure about motor mounts since they use a different style and I think a different location than the standard big block/small blocks. There are some pretty good sites with info on this. http://www.pro-touring.com a couple of guys on there have done it. I know there are kits they sell but I am not sure where to get them. I hope this helps. For street drivability the LS1 would definately be better. But for performance I think the LS1s don't live too long on bottle, you have to keep the shot relatively mild, around 125 max to make em live unless you swap pistons. For less work and a slight performance upgrade and better drivability you could put EFI on what you have too.

It definately would cost some money to swap a LS1 and T-56 in my camaro.Although since my 402 Big Block Camaro is not my every day ride I really can't say I worry to much about gas mileage but I would like to get at least 125 miles out of a tank of gas if I ever go cruising with it.With the total cost of a LS1 swap I would have to spend alot of monet and for what maybe drive the car once or twice a month.I just hope when i get my gas gauge hooked up I can at least get 10 miles per gallon.
