Kickdown cable to the carb!
Kickdown cable to the carb!
Heres the problem. Drove my 69 camaro a couple of weeks ago, then raised the hood to find a wire dangling of the side of the valve cover. I believe it is the kickdown cable from the transmission, the end that attatches to the carb just came off of the wire which is all frayed out. Do I need a whole new cable, aftermarket cables that would work better/look better, or can I just find a new end somewhere?

Re: Kickdown cable to the carb!
Does it have a metal end with a slot for cable adjustment? If so, it is the kickdown. Sounds like you need a cable. Such a simple piece that a stock replacement is fine. Is it a TH350? There might be slight differences on the cable depending on apllication, but pretty much any cable for a TH350 should work. Hit up places like Autozone before you go to resto suppliers like Classic. Should be < 30 bucks. If the counter guy isn't experience, might not be able to find it in the computer if it isn't listed as a kickdown cable. I think the technical name is throttle valve cable.
Re: Kickdown cable to the carb!
If you can't find an EXACT replacement at the usual auto parts places B&M makes an adjustable kickdown cable for the TH-350. You can adjust it 6 ways from Sunday.
On an old TH-350 trans all you really need to make sure of is that the cable is within about 1/4" of running out of travel when the carb reaches WOT. Later trannys like the overdrive 700-R4 and 200-4R are a lot more sensitive to the geometry of the cable to the throttle arm stud where it connects. But the TH-350 it's just gotta open a valve inside the tranny to allow a forced-downshift when you get close to WOT.
If you need EXACT replacement then the restoration catalogs are the place to go.
