Ignition stuck 1979 z28

Hi all - 2 weeks ago was able to turn key but battery basically dead. After hooking up battery cables to jump start, went to start, and ignition will not turn past acc. to crank. I've turned wheel back and forth, tilt wheel up and down, cussed, prayed, hopped on one leg while whistling dixie, to no avail! I've also moved shifter from N to P and back and forth. So, went ahead and removed steering wheel to replace ignition cylinder, and have same problem. It is the mechanism that the lock cylinder attached to in the column that appears jammed. Any suggestions for a fellow Zer? Thank you in advance.

Maybe you should check the carburetor of the engine. It might have got choked or something. Just get it checked and cleaned up. Hope it all gets fine.

Gee..... Mike. You indicate you are from Tustin, CA.... but your IP address is from Mumbai, India. Isn't this a bit odd?

Darn Injuneer...he got banned before he explained how the carburetor (if it even had a carb) was connected to the steering column lock

z28black: Just guessing..but I would check the switch half way down the column...a rod runs from the key switch to that switch..the rod that moves up and down may be jammed or the switch came loose.
