Question I have a question about my '68 Dodge....maybe you guys can help

My Dodge isn't running right at the moment. Actually, it isn't running at all. Here is the problem...When I finally get the car started, I have to keep my foot on the gas. When I don't, it goes to idle, and slowly dies within a minute. I think that the idle may need to be adjusted on the carb, but I have no idea how to do it?? Anyone have any idea what I can do? I need to move the car tomorrow and it will be quite difficult if I have to keep my foot in it the whole time.

If all it needs is to idle faster, there should be some sort of idle adjustment screw somewhere by the throttle bracket. Where exactly would probably depend on what type of carb you have. The end of the screw simply rests against the bracket and keeps it from pivoting forward too far.

Does that sound like what it could be? The idle?

Either the idle speed or your choke is messed up... or it could be a combination of the two.

Give me the model, engine and carb and I can look it up when I get home. (I have a BIG BOOK that covers 1964-1972 domestic cars.)

It is a '70 440, and all I know about the carb is that it is a Holley 750. Sorry I am so ignorant, but it was my dad's car until he passed away last year. I really don't know too much about it.

you may also want to check any vacuum hoses to make sure they're not disconnected or cracked , and make sure all your bolts(carb mount & fuel bowl) are tight
