This is my engine specs that will be going into the 67 camaro. Just wondering how much horsepower do you think this combo will throw down.

10.6 compression
speed pro hyperutic pistons with teflon skirts
eagle cast crank
eagle sir i beam rods
solid comp cam 532/555 lift 106 lobe @ .50 250/260

 

somewhere around 400-450hp


I have a similar set up , hydro roller cam though though, it is around 440hp

 

400/375 with a good single plane intake.

 

Sounds a lot like the 383 I've got on project. In fact, the bottom end is identical. Desktop Dyno says I'll be rocking 460hp/450tq.

 

can't be identical, his is a 355, not 383

Desktop Dyno is usually high on HP and torque, but in the ballpark if all inputs are accurate

 

Identical in the eagle cast crank, eagle i-beam rods, speedpro skirted pistons, 10.5:1 compression, and 64cc heads. My cam is a little more aggressive and my displacement is a little larger. Obviously I have a longer stroke :P

The inputs are as good as I can get them. I scammed a .flw file for the specific set of heads I'm using and a .cam file for the Comp cam I plan on picking up. I'd guess I'd be somewhere in the ballpark of what it says. Plus, Dyno 2003 seems a lot more reasonable on numbers than Dyno 2000. Dyno 2000 had this 383 making over 500hp, which is obviously wrong.

 

I've seen lots of stuff on Dyno 2000 that either seems too high or too low. Lots of people say that DDs estimate for my motor is low. DD 2000 came up with 360hp/450tq for my 400:

Stock shortblock, Aluminum L98 vette heads w/mild work, .490/.490 230/236 110LSA, performer intake, non-CC q-jet, approx. 9.5:1 compression

Lots of knowledgeable people tell me that combo should be worth closer to 400hp, but I just keep saying we'll see what happens when the car is together on the dyno and the track.

Stock short block? Didn't the '87 come with a 305?

Then it ain't the stock short block. Plus, you posted specs for a different cam, which is technically part of the definition of a short block :P

So, that being said, what is the bottom end? 350? Cast or forged? Etc...

 

To correct my previous statement:

The block, crank, rods, and pistons are straight from the factory, and to the best of my knowledge, have never been apart.

I pulled the 400 from a '77 Blazer, but the motor was pulled from an unknown source before it ended up in the Blazer.

The bottom end is all stock, and hasn't been taken apart. When I tore the motor down everything looked to be in good shape, so I didn't bother with a complete rebuild due to $$$. The guy I bought the motor from said that it only had about 80k miles on it, and from looking everything over, I'd say that is a pretty close estimate.

It should hold up fine for a few years of cruising and weekend drag racing, till I have the money to have the bottom end built up correctly
