How does an Amp gauge work???

What all need to be hooked up to make the amp gauge work on my 69 Camaro?? It has two posts on the back of the gauge. What goes where?? I know that you don't ground it anywhere, because i've blown two fuses trying that idea. Help me please!!!.

Unlike a volt meter, an amp meter has to be wired in series configuration. There is a smaller wire that is connected to the positive battery post. That wire would be the source for the signal. you would neeed quite large wire to keep from burning your wire harness too. Use at least one wire size larger than the wire you are splicing into. Be extremely cautious of the bulkhead insulation going through the firewall. I do not like cutting wire harnesses but you can figure out how to avoid that. One post of the meter would be connected to the battery side/ splice in the meter/ the other post would simply be connected to the other end of the wire spliced. If it was my system, I would replace it with a volt meter because it does not require a load based reading and can be wired in parallel configuration.
