Unhappy hooker gheyed me...

just installed a set of hooker comp headers on my dad's bb 67 camaro. i must say, the fit sucks azz. the front passenger and rear driver spark plug holes are partially covered by the flanges (iron rect. port gm hi-po heads) and i had to dent one of the tubes for clearance around the steering box.

i called hooker to ask them what was up and the tech guy told me that it was normal to have to use an open end wrench to change the plugs on header equiped cars (new one on me) and that only bb cars with sb mounts have problems with steering box clearance. well, i know for a fact that the motor mounts are for a bb and the headers that were on the car previously had no problems with fit what-so-ever.

anyone else have issues with fit on this particular application?

Re: hooker gheyed me...

I had similar problems with Hooker Competition headers on the small block in my 67 Camaro. The #6 plug is hard to get to, and I need to use a small box wrench to reach the rear header bolts. Don't blame Hooker though. Every other brand of headers I've tried in the past on small blocks had similar issues, especially around the steering box on power steering equipped cars. The same is even more so with big blocks. Its just the nature of the beast when it comes with headers. I think you'd find similar problems with most other brands out there.

Yep, ur barkin up the wrong tree, with headers your going to run in to these problems. It 2X harder with headers and A/C, you have to almost break you hand to get a wrench in there. If you don't like it, switch back to manifolds.......

i think you missed the part where i wrote that the previous headers had no problems with fit at all.

My Hooker 2" super comps fit fine with no denting on my big block A/C car.

What brand/type of headers did you have on it before that didn't have any fit issues?

dunno... they were on the car when my dad purchased it. they did have small, individual flanges on each primary tube, though. heddmans? blackjacks? i was hoping that they were hookers when dad ordered the new ones.
