Guess that 383 stroker power numbers?
Well a buddy of mine got a 69 camaro with a 383 stroker. Alls I know that it has is a 383 stroker, Brodix Track 1 heads, .591 lift cam, Air gap intake with a 670 carb.
What kind of rough rwhp numbers is he pushing? Any possible track/mph times out a 69 camaro?
I know they are rough estimates but they are better than nothing.
Thanks...

Re: Guess that 383 stroker power numbers?
I'll give it a try. I say he will be running about mid 12's -low 12's. Hp numbers more or less at around 420-440 with a 15%-20% drivetrain loss it would be less to the wheels , about 350hp . Just my guess .
Re: Guess that 383 stroker power numbers?
I would say that 383 aint gonna hit a lick at **** with a 670 cfm carb..beleee dat!!....low 13's ON A GOOD DAY ...of course we need more info to get closer....

Re: Guess that 383 stroker power numbers?
Too many people over-carburate, it will make 350-420 depending on many things, tune quality, good working ignition system, port-match?, compression? roller cam? etc...a 670 is a little small, but not by much.

.Here are some details on my Dad's '73 (listed in my sig):
- 355 ci, ~11.25:1 compression
- GM "LT1" heads (~64cc chambers, 2.02/1.6 valves, 1.6 int./1.5 exh. RR's)
- Comp Cam - XE284? .507"/.510", 240/244 duration, or something like that

- Performer RPM "Air-gap" intake
- Holley 650 dual-feed, double-pumper
- 1-3/4" long-tubes with dumps
- 4-speed T-10 w/3.42's
At the track we had a few 13-second runs (13.2's - 13.7's) but we were having problems launching the car on the Mickey Thompsons!
They hooked real hard! But finally after a couple runs, I took it out and got a 12.795 @ 109.71 with a 2.1 60' time - still a crappy launch - I actually spun the MT's!
NOW the '73 has a TH350, ~2800 stall and 4.10's, but we haven't been back to the track with this setup yet. Even when we ran 12.79 before, I think the car still has a lot more in it, we just couldn't drive it worth a ****!
We also have a full set of 1.6 rockers to put on which will bring the cam lift to .540"/.544". With the 4.10's and stall converter, I expect low 12's. POWER-WISE? I would "guess" and say that the MOTOR is making somewhere around ~400 - 420HP? We've yet to dyno the car either.SO, for your buddy's 383 with good heads and a big camshaft like that, even with a "little" 670 carb
, I'd expect power to be in the ~425 - 450 range, and torque probably around ~450 - 475 ft-lbs or so
.
Re: Guess that 383 stroker power numbers?
Well, for what its worth my 383 hits a pretty good lick and is very streetable. I've probably driven the car about 2000 miles since I got it going last September.
I've only made it to the track once (Nov. 2004) and it was only an 1/8th mile track. My first pass after driving it to the track was a 7.49, then when still hot ran a 7.45. Best 60' was a 1.67, I think the car may have had more in it but I didn't play with timing or tire pressure that day.
Details:
1984 Camaro, V6 stripper car don't know exact weight.
Ford 9" w/4.11's
TH350 w/TCI "Streetfighter" 10" converter
383, Speed Pro flat top hypereutectics (compression 10.6:1 with milled block)
Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads
Comp XR288HR hyd. roller (236/244@.050, .520/.540 lift)
RPM Air Gap
Demon 750 Carb right outta the box
MSD 6AL and MSD distributor
Hooker Super Comp headers
Flowmaster dual 3" exhaust
Mickey Thompson ET Streets
I did go back to the track in Jun 05 and busted the TH350 case on my first pass. Launched, rolled about 30 feet and got into my own trans fluid. Worst part, I drove to the track, had to call home for a trailer....

Like I said before, we were having problems launching the car (it would fall on its face a lot) so when I was at the line and the lights were coming down, I brought the revs upto about ~5000 RPM and pretty much dumped it off the line!
Well, the car didn't even budge ... just a "bang". Turned out BOTH U-joints snapped, as well as the tranny case split and the output shaft bent
Re: Guess that 383 stroker power numbers?
One more bump...for anyone with a similar combo?
What cam could that be that has the .591 lift? Is it a universal cam...that one would know off hand.
I know in the mustang communtiy there are cams like that, B, E, F cam that have specific specs.
Thanks

Re: Guess that 383 stroker power numbers?
I run a similar combo,12.9/1 388, track 1s, super vic, nitrous grind roller,1000 holley hp 10.9@ 125 n/a, an mine is lazy on motor because of the big nitrous grind cam.
A friend has another one 11/1 383, pro topllines, super vic, comp extreme energy .550 lift, 830 demon, 10.9@124 N/A.
I think you'll be in the 11's very easily, I know a few other guys with 383's an their running 11.7 , 11.6, an 10.8s. Can't see it being in the 12's unless ya got 9.0/1 compression, even with that small carb I'm betting 11s.
