Gear drive or roller timing chain?

Just wondering how gear drives are to live with on a "driver"?

I was planning on a double roller chain for my 327 build-up, but for just a little more I could get a ProForm gear drive from Summit for around $90. To top it off, it has a cam button in case I get a wild hair and decide to go roller.

Is the ProForm junk?
Does the gear whine get annoying after a time?

It sounds cool, but I think it would get annoying after a while personally...unless you have a really loud stereo.

Plus, the added friction of the gears takes away power...and we just cant be havin' any of that.

Just my thoughts.h

the harmonics and vibrations froma gear drive eventually wiggle stuff looser and then bad stuff happens. Id go with a roller chain. No racecars run gears.

Complete truth!!! The harmonics transferred to the valve train are horrible.

A good double roller will last for years. Spend a little money for a good qualilty one and you won't have any trouble. I bought a Cloyes for my 383. Nice piece.

Re: Gear drive or roller timing chain?

If money is not an object you could go with a jesel belt drive. Free up some hp and easy to work with.

Maybe not so much money after all. Check this out.
