Fuelie Heads

Ported and Polished with the XE 284 cam... whats you're take on this setup? Looking for a nasty lope/rumble?

LT's, x pipe, and... not sure of the catback

Re: Fuelie Heads

That cam should give you a very nice sounding idle. I have the XE274, and it sounds pretty damn nice all warmed up and idling at 600RPM

Re: Fuelie Heads

Well, I've run a SIMILAR setup and I'll tell you that you will enjoy the combo. Nice lope and a strong puller up through the 6000+ range. Or at least the 280H cam I used was... that cam should actually be a little bit better.

However, head technology has come a long way and you can do better than Fuelie heads.

At the very least, send those heads to a porter with a good rep to let him do his thing. You're probably also going to want to mill them to reduce the combustion chamber size, even if it means running a dished piston; and if you're going to mill them then you may as well angle mill them. Of course, now you're starting to spend some money, but I thought you'd like to know.

Re: Fuelie Heads

I agree with "random" Id go for a bit newer head or atleast get them P&P, why not go with something like L98's or voretc heads?

Re: Fuelie Heads

FWIW, the X-pipe will mellow out the lope at idle.

Really? Mellow out the lope?

Getting the Fuelie heads P&P for $250 from a good friend... thats why i'm going with them. Plus, the funds aren't there for aftermarket ones.

Yep, with one of my motors, I went from an H-pipe to an X-pipe, and the difference in how much less aggressive the idle sounded was dramatic. The headers and Flowmasters were the same, all the was changed was the swap from the H to the X.

While it mellowed out the idle considerably, it sounded great at WOT.

That is the XE 274 on a 400sbc with mildly ported vette L98s (more detail in the sig)

The XE 284 in a 327 will prolly have a lot more lope, as cubic inches tend to eat up a bit of lope. A buddy of mine had the XE 274 in a 350 with edelbrock performer heads in his '77 vette, and it sounded pretty nice through shorty headers and a crap exhaust with a pair of 40 series flowies on it.
