Finally thinking of building a 2nd gen Help me out here

As many of you guys know ive been around for a while..Ive finally acumulated enough extra parts to get the go ahead to build another car.(being down to one car in the house sorta helps since im gonna buy her a new car soon)Kinda sucks driving for an 1hr every morning and your job is 2 mins away from the house.

Anyways ive nawwored it down to a few cars..Namely a 70-73 Z28 or almost any trans am in the 2nd gen form.Wich years were the lightest of the TA's. Im looking for something that would wind up being a streeter and only going to the track maybe twice a year.

My parts list includes 17X8" wheels with 4 1/2" of backspaceing Will these fit? 3.90 gears and an ARB air locker for the rear, and rear discs from JFZ.I also have a 700R4 that needs soft parts but not sure if im gonna freshen it up yet..

So to teh nitty gritty, theres a local lot here that sells project cars in gainsville GA.Im looking at some that are priced around 1000-1500 dollars without drivetrains..What sould i be looking for in terms of rust..Off teh top of my head all i can think of is the trunk area..Is tehre any trouble spots that i could delve into so i dont get into a resto? Also if i find something witha bad nosepeice is that somethjing i should aviod because it would be expensive to replace?

Its either this or a 85-90 caprice classic but there are really pricey down here in the south.Everybody wants them..(Mental note, kick self in the buthole for junking the 90 9C1 with the blown engine and perfect body before we moved from philly)
Thanks

Other rust spots would be rear fender well area, and fender behind the front tires. Also some seem to rust on the rear frames. The trunk rust is usually caused by the rear window leaking. Also the area on the tpo back point of the side windows tends to get rusty. This is a point where the body flexes and will crack unless you use subframe conectors.

If you're looking for a Pontiac, don't overlook the early 70's Formulas. They look great with the ramair hood.

my camaro rusted through the molding clips for the window chrome, and ended up leaking into the trunk and the front dash. Look along the dash line at the bottom of the front winshield for rust formation. You might want to pull a chrome piece or two off the front and back windshields just to check. $$$ to fix!!!

Check out www.nastyz28.com it the best place for info on 2 gen Camaros(they even like Firebird owners ) The major rust areas on the car are the rear frame rails the cowl area due poor windsheild install.
