Question Driveshaft WHAP!

Some of you may have read in my other posts about my little accident....If not here it is.

I recently adapted a 78' camaro 8.5, 10 bolt posi 3:73 gear rear end to replace an open diff. under my 67 camaro. it involved Moving the spring perches and shortening my drive shaft. everything seemed to go very smooth.

I took the camaro out for the first time and noticed a small vibration. I run 13 in wide tires on the back that probably need balancing so I didn't think much of it and continued my test drive. I decided, after babying the car for an hour, to pick up the speed.....MISTAKE.

At about 70mph w/o warning (no vibration whatsoever) a bomb went off underneath the car. I quickly shut down the car and PROCEEDED to CLEAN OUT MY DRAWERS and scream a few choice words.

upon inspection I found that I spit out a U_joint.....make a 3ft battering ram out of my driveshaft which shredded the transmission hump under the rear seat...beat to crap my expensive flowmaster exhaust system and finally crack my tranny bellhousing in two!!!!

I am now looking for replacement parts on a limited budget. So here is my question(probably not my last).

Does someone know what a driveshaft under a 78' camaro would measure from one center of the u-joint to the other?

After shortening my old shaft, it measures 49' joint to joint. I really don't have the money to spend to have another one shortened and balanced!

I've got a stock '79 from the TH-350 to the differential. I'll measure tomorrow for you.

From centerline to centerline on the U-joints I got 48-1/2 inches.
