do you know this code? 355909

I bought this motor from a friend who said it was a 350. I pulled the heads off just to find the pistons looked kinda small. I ran the numbers at the local chevy dealer and was told it was eather a 262 or a 305 .the code on the back of the block below the head is 355909 it has a non egr 4brl intake can you help?

during the smog era gm was down sizing the cubes i an effort to meet emissions. they also used a 265. they both sucked and nothing can be done because they use a very small bore and can't be made larger. sorry but you got a boat anchor that only reduces the value of your boat.

According to Nastyz28.com it is either a 262 with 110 horsepower, or a 305. Either way, take it back to your "friend" and demand your money back. Good luck. J

Worst V8 GM every produced. Even the wimpy 305 can outperform it. I hope you didn't pay more that scrap metal value for it.
