71' Chevelle, 406 10.7 comp, Dart II's bowl blended, Dart II intake, Comp 242/250 solid flat tappet, 750 dp,
single point ( :-D ), 1.5 stamped rockers ( :-D ) and a loose 10" (3800 flash), SSM's, 4.10's, 28" tall tire. What would you change? I admit that I have never checked the curve or opened the carb (adusted the pump to get rid of bog), but besides that? What would you do?

Stamped rockers? Seriously? That's like something I'd do! Good set of high quality pushrods and high quality 1.5 rocker arms is really called for when you get to a cam like that. Of course, you ARE running the right springs for the cam, right?
Likewise, the distributor, For under $150 Summit sells a very nice performance HEI distributor that already has a better coil and module and has a good ignition curve built into it. Just make sure you are feeding it a full 12V all the time- the stock resistor wire that runs your points distributor won't cut it. A single point set distributor with stock points is all done by about 5500- you need about 1000 more PRM than that to get the most from your cam.
The stall's a bit high. 3000 should be plenty but don't sweat it if that's not in the budget right now. It's more a drivability thing if you're on the street a lot. That thing must shred tires like there's no tomorrow off the line!
Beyond that, tuning. Carb and distributor. It's not fun, easy or fast, but it will make a noticable difference, depending how far off you are from the start.

Thanks for the help guys. Damon, they are the right springs installed at the right height
would u happen to know if Sport IIs pushrod slots will clear 1.6's? Also do you guys think maybe a bit more cam 250/260 will help alot? One last thing, do you think I'd benifit from a single plane, or maybe a AirGap proformer? I have sinking suspicion that he Dart II is nothing but a fac Z/28.

Last set I remember looking at the pushrod holes were plenty large and should still allow the pushrods to move freely even with 1.6 rocker arms.
I'm not familiar with the Dart II intake but I thought it was a single plane. If it's just a dual plane Z-28 intake clone then I think you will benefit slightly from a Vic Jr or similar intake.
No miracles. Your combo isn't badly mimatched.

Just went and checked out the Dart II intake- you're right- it's just a Z-28 knock-off. With your extremely loose converter a manifold that favors high RPM HP over low RPM torque should be worth some ET and MPH- like a single plane Vic Jr or similar. Fromm 5500-6500 you should pick up some power versus your current dual plan.
Thanks again,
I think I'm gonna get some 1.6 rollers and a VicJr for this next summer :-D, gotta tweak the curve too, what do you think, heaviest weights/lightest springs, 34/36 total? I'll try and tune it but I think that will gove me the best +/- 2 degress. Thanks for the help :-)
