cracked block. Is it fixable?

cracked block. Is it fixable?

Well I dident have enough water with the antifreeze and the block cracked on the outside about a 4-5 in line its very thin and it also cracked on the in side(right above the lifter vally) I was wondering if it was repairable? jb weld? or something?

no way.dont even think about trying to fix it,besides why would you want to,im assuming you have a 305-350?not like you cant get another block for say 50 ucks?

well, it WAS a 383 4-bolt main bored .40

I agree with the above responses, it's time for a new block. While cast can be welded, engine blocks usually can't be welded with much success. I see 4bolt 350's all the time in the free ads in Pennsylvania for $200 or so. I saw a complete short block 4bolt steel crank 350 for $75 a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I've heard of blocks being repaired using very specialized welding techniques. But it seems to be only worth attempting if you've got something ridiculously unobtainable. In other words, 1937 Auto Union grand prix racing engine? Maybe worth it. Production small-block Chevy? Nah.
