nothing really, it's pretty much just a swap out, although some CD head units may require a chasis/mounting kit.
most decent stereo places can tell you that.

Do a little shopping! I found a Jensen am/fm/cassete with 6-disc cd changer, in JC Whitney, for $250 bucks. The cable for the changer is a single cable, about the size of standard coax, so you can mount it where ever. I put one in my wife's 97 Grand Am, and she really likes it. That is the route I plan to go on my 70.. down the road sometime.
If you are wanting to put the newer style, DIN 1-1/2 or DIN2 radio, then you will be hacking and slashing on the dash.

what about the harness? Is there a adapter to go from the one from the cd player to the factory harness?

Are you wanting to add a CD to the existing radio, or replace the whole shebang?
Any aftermarket radio will come with color coded wires, and simple instructions... you should be able to splice it in easily.
The one I have, the cable from the CD changer plugs into the back of the new radio.. that's it! Your done! (as far as the CD goes... )

You'd be better off asking in the Car Audio Section of the board.

As far as what tex said, yeah...its a hack and slash do-it-yourself job. Just take a deep breath and trust that you can do it. Any aftermarket cd head unit will come with color coded wires and instructions. Get yourself a wiring diagram out of a repair manual and go to work. After removing the old unit, you will have to cut out the space that the tuning ***** used to be. Hopefully your cd player came with a mounting bracket, if not, go to a car audio store and get one. After the unit is in. Consult your diagrams and connect wire one to wire one, antena wire to the antena wire, etc... its really not as hard as you might think it is.

What head unit do you have?

If it is one that has a provision for playing cd's from a changer, all you do is plug it in.

If it doesn't, you need the changer that plays through a FM signal.
