Car has been sitting for about a year and a half...what to do to get it started?
I'm about to go home on leave here for a few weeks, and my financial situation is now in order so I can begin the restoration of my Impala ( I know it's a Z/28 forum, but hey...)
I just need to drive it about 5 miles down the road to the body shop. If I can't start it I can always use a friends truck to tow it too.
I'm thinking all I need to do is drain the oil, syphon out the old gas, refil the oil and gas, pull the plugs, squit some oil into the cylinders, and put a teeny bit of gas in the carb...jump the battery (might have to use a new one) and get it rolling. I'm not overly concerned about gumming up the engine, as I'm pulling the 283 in favor of a 350. I don't want to do any serious damage, b/c I'm saving the 283 in case sometime in the future I want to do a 'numbers matching' job on her.
That sound right?

Check brake fluid level. Disconnect juice to coil so you can crank engine over for a few seconds to prime the oiling system so it doesn't start dry. The gas in the accelerator shot system of the carb might have gummed things up. Some carbs have a check ball under the squirters that will stick with the gum. After you get engne running, turn it off and check to see if squirters are shooting. If not, unbolt the squirter (don't drop it!) and shoot some carb cleaner in there to free things up. Car will be a pain to drive if the accelerator shot is missing.
