Unhappy Re: Can a cast crank take 450hp?

Stock cast crank turned .010 on the mains and .020 on the rods. Not sure how much power I am making but, the car has gone 11.15 @ 121 on a 150 shot and turning it to 6800. Going on 6 years on this motor. Been spraying for about 3 years now. Just hoping it will last until I get the new 406 together.

Re: Can a cast crank take 450hp?

well i have to put my two cents in
ive been asking the same question for a long time. Since im not going to have the money to put together my motor for a while im building a sacraficial motor in the mean time. 355 cast crank .020 on rods, cast rods reworked and fordged pistons, 640 lift @ 256/262 250 shot nitrous 7k behind a th400 on brake. well see what happens. You have to keep in mind we are not the only ones to do it; if you discuss this with a machine shop its not in their best intrest to machine a stock crank but to build you a somewhat bullet proof bottom end (less liability) and more money in their pocket. Around here theres the people who do and the people who dont. Im going to be the doer. Think of this also do you think a big buiz like "GM" is going to put a crank in a motor that can only spin 4500 @ about 300hp no! they are going to put it together with the same parts that can handle 6-6500 and about 450hp. Its less liability the only thing they will not tell you is that it can do it! We wont be the only one who are doing it. Also how about the ford guys using a junkyard motor putting heads on it and spraying 300 plus untill it blows, however i have only seen a few grenade due to running lean and putting a hole through the top of a piston( should also add 350hp shot ) no rods out the side of the block yet. and the super/turbo ford are running cast stock cranks with good rods. If you want to be worried worry about the rods coming apart before the crank does and fwiw DO NOT DETONATE OR RUN INTO PRE INGINTION thats what will kill your motor.
p.s. I absolutely love clearwater its my favorite place i call it my second home!

Well alright. I'm going to keep this stock 3.48" stroke crank just in case I have to build a 350. My 3.75" stroke crank came in today, so I'm going to go pick it up after work.
