Re: Big Block Head Info

Im no BBC gooroo but have a little knowledge about the heads. I have allways been told that a well prepped set of 049 or 781 oval port heads will support in access of 600+ NA Hp. Bigger square ports are not allways better and in a street driven car I believe they will be too big. You will hear people say you need the 990 or comparable square port to make power but unless you plan on spinning the crap out of it, its not worth it.

XcYZ can attest to this but we have a close friend who runs an oval port headed 468 BBC in a heavy all steel 70 camaro. Car turns High tens NA and low tens on a 150 shot. He may be close to dipping in to the 9's this year.

Ray in Alabama.

PS... anyone else have any comments

Yep, Ray is right, thats a damn quick car, and it's none too light. He has a great combination. As a matter of fact, I helped him drop it back in last weekend.
