Post Baby steps.

hi i'm looking at buying a 69' SS if i can find one for a good price. I want to strip it down and start from the frame up but i don't exactly know what that entails i do know that i'll need to somehow get all the surface rust and paint and what not off everything i was just wondering how to go about doing this...i mean is there any way i can do it myself or do i have to take it to a shop?? any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to the board. I am no professional when it comes to body work, but I can let you know what I have learned. Sandblasting is a wonderful thing, it is fast, clean, and easy. I haven't done it on the actual body, just on parts. It works great! I have also used the 80 grit sanding pads on the body, it strips great, but you will have to use a filler primer, cause the paper gauges the metal. Painting your car will be a whole different ballgame. You really should purchase a current book on bodywork and painting, due to the insane amount of different paint types out there. Good luck, keep us posted.....
