Automatic to standard.
How much would it cost me and how expensive would it be to convert my 69 Camaro with a 2 speed powerglide to a 4 speed manual? Also, do you know anyone in the Dallas area you would recomend for the job?
Thanks,
Elliot

I converted a 1984 firebird from auto to stick yrs ago
what made it easy was finding a donor car for the parts at a local junkyard
one problem you may run into is that on older cars the bellcrank(mechanical lever attached to frame and engine) gets bolted to the engine as well as the frame of the car not all engines have the hole in the block for the bolt,my block had the metal there but the hole was not drilled so I had to pull the motor to drill it and tap it
keep in mind that holes will have to be cut in the floor for the shifter and in the firewall for the clutch linkage

I'm glad someone else in the world wants to swap in a 4spd! Cost depends on ALOT of things: what kind of trans you want, will you want it rebuilt or will you just yank it out of a donor car and stick it in yours, how strong does the trans have to be, what gear ratios you want, how much power will you throw at it, stock bellhousing or explosion-proof, what kind of clutch...
Conceivably, you could do it for about $1000 (minus the sale price of the replaced slushbox and junk) if you did it yourself. If you want more than just a salvage T-10, Hays clutch and swap meet bellhousing, "the sky's the limit!"
A good site to visit is www.gearzone.net. Whatever you do, have fun.

If the trans has just been rebuilt and there are no broken mounting ears or stripped threads, it's a pretty good deal. Even if it hasn't just been rebuilt and it's a good, running trans, it's a good deal. If it has just been taken out of a car, see if you can find out why. It's hard to judge the condition of a transmission if it's out of the car, because the best way to check it is to drive it. Also, looking the gears over for obvious wear issues is good to do. Try looking on eBay for the "market price"--there's always a truckload of 'em on there!
It's a matching numbers M21 trans for a 67 Camaro that has just recently been rebuilt. I went ahead and bought it today and I'm going to try to install it tomorrow after work.
Anyone interested in a used Powerglide transmition in good working condition?
Elliot
