Thanks, It's called ignorance
I would waste my time trying to find a machine shop to do this and find a good used manifold at the same time but this is going to be a stock LT1 street motor and not a full out race motor that needs to rev to make power.
If I wanted to catch **** for asking this kind of question I would try in the LT1 section so I can be crucified by the FI guys for even thinking of trying to do such a thing. Can someone please just go along with this idea for me and let me worry about what will happen. The parts are in my grasp for little $$$ I just need to shell out the cash and assemble it.

Alright, what exaclty are you trying to find out??
What year and make model car is this going into?
I am going to have a carbed motor in my 4th gen but do to limited space i am going to be changing a few things like you will.
Are you keeping the stock dash cluster? Don't explode but what are you reasons behind going carb'd. I am since no one locally can tune my car for FI and i do not want to buy a DFI and waste more money and time.
If you are just looking to throw a small cam and keep the car streetable you are not going to gain anything by going carb'd to be honest with you. You are going to loose a tiny bit of driveability and gas mileage. You are just doing it to be unique that is all i need to hear just some reason on why??
By going carb'd you cannot use the opti in anyway since it needs a signal from injectors and if the opti is not running due to that it is not going to enable the fuel pump either. I am just wondering what your exact details are so that i can help you here a bit.

I agree w/the fact that it wont be worth the investment. the only advantage you have is alum. heads and roller lifters. but the down side is that the stock cams are about worthless if you want to make any power since they are made w/emissions output and gas mileage as there #1 priority. I only see one reason to use the LT1 and thats the wow factor. but to me that doesnt mean anything. and, the aftermarket cams are expensive. an intake for a gen. 1 eng. only costs between $90(torquer II)-$200(RPM airgap) not $300.
I had similar goals as you when I started building my eng. The cheaper the better w/power as my #1 goal. check out my sig. for my combo that still gets 13 MPG on mixed freeway/city driving and does mid 12's at the track.

I asked this question A while back and got Alot of (Why Would you wanna do this?stuff). The Way I see it is You can tune it your Self.So no Custom Costly $$$ Programming and waiting for the down time.A Slightly bigger cam and a nice Holley should make you a Couple Hp More,Atleast In my Opion.I really like the Idea.I was thinking of doing it myself, just a slighlty Diffrent from you.I say Do it Its your money and Its easier to tune if you know a little about carbed cars.I think Its cheap to do and so what of you loose a little MPG..

just to make my op. a little more clear, I say ditch the FI too(thats what I did to my Iroc), but in this case, I dont know if its worth the extra cost to use it over a gen 1 small block. esp. since you already have one. if you can get the long blocks that much cheaper then a gen 1, then go for it. and since your going to invest in the other special stuff, maybe get an extra long block while your at it, cause next time around, they might not be available that cheaply. how much are they goin for anyways? just curious. and, if the LT1's come w/the intakes, then you could sell them on ebay or here to gain a little back since they are useless to you.
The cast iron engines are $350 and the aluminum head engines are $650. These are with the oil pan, no accessories and no intakes in crates. I found a few local places that have a lot of decomissioned 9C1 caprices with LT1's that are willing to part out with any of the little parts I need to do this. I am looking to be different and it will be in a way that will save me money.

I say go for it, you have your reasons, and nobody else has to understand. I have a GM LT1 carb. intake, PN24502592, but I paid $300.00 for it and couldn't sell it any cheaper.Sounds like you could get one cheaper at Scoggin-dickey. If you need any of the other little stuff, let me know, I can get you all of the LT 1 parts you need. Definately go with the aluminum head version, and don't let these guys scare you, with a good carb, and headers, you will make decent power and have a unique piece!
