Advice on buying a 67 Camaro RS

I am interested in buying a 67 Camaro RS that i went and looked at today. I checked the vin number and the trim tag and all of the codes seemed to match up well with the car. The engine is rebuilt and still a 327 with a different intake manifold, carb and headers. The transmission is still a 2 speed powerglide. I took it for a test drive and everything seemed to run fine. It starts up perfect and idles smoothly. The A/C was also working well. It has always been in arizona and no body work has been done on the car. I saw a small amount of rust where the top meets with the car. I did not get a good picture of it but i have links to other pictures.

The only non-stock items are the rear spoiler and a water/oil gauge on the interior. Also on the rear there is an SS logo.

He is asking $13,500 for the car i am looking for opinions on what you guys feel the car is worth. Any feedback on what to look for or what to pay would help.

The picture beneath the car that is not oil dripping it was a plastic knife on the ground.

Thanks -

i'd say go for it.. would be a great car to drive

one thing though.. are you sure it's an RS? I'm not exactly sure but the front of the car should have hidden lights for an RS.... those are SS style lights....

..... i'm confused

The car is NOT an 'RS' and it is NOT an 'SS' and it appears to have quite a bit of rust hiding under the vinyl top. That car might be worth $8-9000 to the right person, but no way is it a $13,500 car. Did you get the codes off the engine and is it the original engine? Even if the engine is original, it's just a 327/210 hp engine and not that rare. The only thing that adds value to that car is the AC. That's my opinion.

Thats a pretty solid car, but theres no way its worth that much. I would say 7-8.5 maybe. I saw a 67 with a 327 matching motor in my neighboorhood go for 5k the other day. And it made that one look like a POS. Granted the guy was desperate for cash, but still. If you want a 1st gen you could find a better deal.

i thought pretty much any first gen in a condition like that would be atleast 10,000... for being a car that old, it would seem resonable.. ehh

^^^ What Jeff said.

That things a rust bucket! Just from those photos I can tell you right now its going need major sheet metal replacement around the entire rear window.

It most certainly is not an RS.

Check out my 67 RS in the link below. I paid the same price in March. No rust, fully documented, same 210 hp 327 and powerglide. (No AC though.)

You'll have to be extra careful with vinyl top cars... almost every single one of them will have rust problems.

As for what its worth? Personally I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole because of the rust issues, however it still should fetch between $7-8k.

A clean numbers matching car will bring that much. But it has to be in excellent condition. Thats a very nice car, but I would say it would be in the 8-10k range with the rust. I have to admit......If I were to sell my car (which I won't) it would have to be in the 13-14k range for me to even think about selling it. And its not a numbers matching car by far.

My sister bought a 69 Camaro back in 86 that seemed to have only a slight amount of rust under the vinyl top. When we peeled the top off . We also found rust along the rocker panels & quarters. If you can see rust in one place, chances are it's lurking elsewhere. Lucky for her my dad was in the body & paint business, so we did all the repair/prep work. For $900, it was an ok buy at the time.
