81 6 cyl. sport coupe + 78 vette 350?

Let me start off by saying I know nothing about the older f-bods.
That stated, I sold my LT1 a couple years ago and have been hunting for another camaro, I was thinking of an LS1 ss but I stumbled across a very clean 81 that would make a fun project. I would pull the 6 cyl for the 350, but my question is building up the 350 - I know vettes of the late 70s were low on hp in stock form. how much would it take to get the old sbc to make 350 - 400 hp? It has an aftermarket intake and a holley 650 now. can it take a supercharger or is all motor a better direction to go? thanks

You can make 350 at the flywheel easy with a n/a sbc 350, even with stock heads. With something better like Vortecs, 400 is common.

Car Craft did an excellent series on building up a Goodwrench 350 (basically the same as a 70's 350) a while back where they got those kinds of numbers. It's not on their site, but this article on a 440 hp Vortec'd 350 is:

thanks for the reply angel
great car craft article
I like the ideal of 440 at the flywheel, should translate to just under 400 at the tires. the vortec heads look like a good buy.
I'm still doing some research so I know what kind of project I'll be getting into having never built (or rebuilt) a motor.
