Question 71 Z

What the value of a '71 motorless and no tranny Z?

NOt sure yet but I think it may need some work as well.

How hard is it to drop a FI engine into one of these?

Are the suspensions pretty decent or is a lot of work needed? I would imagine bushings and such would all be shot? Do they rust an any particular spots?

The basic front suspension design is excellent because it uses A-arms instead of the struts used later. This allows the tire to stay upright in a sharp turn, so it keeps a greater contact patch with the road. But the components will in all probabilities need upgrading.

More in depth information on 2nd gens available at nastyz28.com, a 2nd gen site.

Thanks I will check it out.

There is one on ebay I have been looking at with no engine or tranny. Needs paint, and some interior resto. Figure all suspension upgraded? Maybe a new vynel top and I would guess brakes?

How hard is it to upgrade the brakes to something newer and better?

Value of a 71 with needed resto and no drivetrain?

I was thinking of maybe an LS1 derived transplant.

I'd probably say $1000 to $3000 depending on the condition.

Don't short change yourself though. Don't pay too much for a rust bucket, you will find one for what you want to pay but you might have to wait a little while.

I found out its a normal camaro with an RS front end on it.

Has some bubbling needs a new fender? Comes with a new fender. So it has some rust to be sanded and a paint job needed.
Engine and tranny went into a 69 camaro.

Watch out for the rear frame rails on the 2nd gen cars, they can rust right through. Have the guy take some pictures of the rear frame rails and floor. If he makes excuses, then assume they're rotted through.
