70 z28 ss rs difference?

70 z28 ss rs difference?

i'm looking at a 70 z28 for sale .. and was wondering what was the most expensive model in 1970 and the most desirable now between the z28, ss and rs .. i know the rs had the extra lights and the split bumper but what was the main differences btwn the z28 and ss .. thanks for any info out there .. SB

RS was an appearance option, so you could get the RS option on a base V8, or on the Z28, or on an SS.

Z28 came with the LT-1 engine (same as vette of that year), 350/360hp w/solid cam. SS could have 300hp 350 w/hydraulic cam, or couple of different 396's.

If that Z28 is genuine, it should have a 12 bolt under it. 70 was only year 2nd gens had 12 bolts from factory. Came on Z28, SS and T/A's & Formulas.

As to most desirable, that depends on who is buying. For a quick car that handles and looks good, I'd say a Z28 with RS option. For all out acceleration, SS396/375hp with RS option.

I'm partial to the looks of an RS.

I like the SS's... the non-split bumpers look awesome.

Do yourself a favor, go to nastyz28.com, there is more ifo on that site than you could even read in one setting and thats just info on the 1970s, there is just as much info on all second gen cars (1970-1981) Happy reading!!!
