69 camaro z28 rebuild
69 camaro z28 rebuild
Hello you probably do not know me but I have been lurking for a while.
But anyways I want to know how much it will cost to take a 69 z from a project to a nice finished car, better than stock all #'S matching just no overspray and such.
I am planning on saving for a good 3-4 years and i just wish to know bout how much I need to save I plan on buying the car to
so can any knowledgable people give me a price list?
thanx shadow

Virtually impossible to answer. It would depend on how much of the car you buy would need to be replaced. If you have 1/4 panel replacement, floors, etc. which are common areas of rust it will quickly add up. Does the interior need replacing or just cleaned up, etc. will dramatically change the cost.
Bottom line, it will cost you probably $20K to $25K just to buy a numbers matching Z that needs a total restoration to be as new. Then figure on at least another $20K to go through it, and it could (and probably will) be more than that. It would be easier and cheaper to just buy a restored numbers matching Z. It is extrremely rare to build one for less than you could buy one for.

well just so you know my motive for restoring a z is that a restored z will last at least another 5-6 years for sure but a non restored one will last about 1yr.
Plus I dont know why else but restoring my own car attracts me for some reason .
was that canadian or american if american could you convert??

ebay occassionally will have a z in need of full restoration, they go for 4x-8x's that of a sport coupe, even just the bodies with the z/28 trim tags will go for more than just a standard car even without any driveline. 20-25k is a good range for restoration once you have the car. Restoring original parts that might be cracked, rusted, blah and such can cost $$$ if you want to keep it all original parts. If you find a car in running looking decent you may be better off but in the end they will both cost you a good amount of money. But then again a fully restored by someone else will cost even more, but whats the fun in not doin most of the work yourself?

The best advice I can offer you is buy the cleanest car you can. Buy someone's old restore w/ bad paint to save money and lots of time. That way someone has already chased all the parts you need.
We have a complete Z that was restored about 15 yrs ago and we probably wouldn't let it go for any less than $20k US $$.
