68 Gas Tank
68 Gas Tank
Has anyone ever modified their original gas tank for a fuel injection system? I did on my original tank, by plumping a return line, and putting in a vent tube (with the rollover ball) to vent the tank, but the car always smells of gas - specially around the gas cap, so I put some foam insulation in the gas cap, so that the cap will fit tighter, but in speaking to various people, they stated that on 67 and 68 Camaro, the tanks got vented through the loosing fitting of the gas cap - is this correct? On a 69 I was told that there was some kind of vent line, is this accurate? Also, for pressure release purposes, I was told that a 69 had a rivet in the gas cap for pressure release, but since the cap is exposed on a 67-68, there is no rivet, that is why the cap fits loose.
Any thoughts?
FYI - I just may have a custom stainless steel tank with baffles made.

You should be able to get a vented, replacement cap for yours. I have also seen an advertisement in the back of Super Chevy or Popular Hotrodding for a place that makes bolt in tanks for FI conversion on older cars.
