327 engin out of a 67 RS.

I have a 327 ci engin and a 2 speed powerglide that I just pulled out of my ’67 camaro. I do not know how many miles it has on it but it ran before I pulled it out. I have been told the engine is not original, that it came out of a 1966 impala. The number off of the engine pad is T0609HCR. The engine has a 4 barrel Rochester carburetor and I was told by an old mechanic the engine has camel back heads. I am planning on installing a 350ci LT1 and a 6 speed manual transmission out of a 1996 Trans Am. I want to sell the 327 and powerglide but do not know what it is worth, or where I should sell it, ebay, local paper, etc… I guess my biggest concern is what it is worth. I have no idea what it is worth, is it worth even selling, or should I just take it to the junk yard? Does anyone have any advise as far as how much it is worth or what is the best way to put it up for sale. I assume I can send it freight to whoever buys it.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

In the world of bigger cubic inch for the same money, 327's just are'nt as popular as they once were except for some die hard older crowds or younger guys that want what dad had. Easiest way to sell would be locally since pick up is alot easier and the transaction is cut and dry. You could try listing on ebay, but then you have to crate the motor up and take to a freight terminal for shipping and shipping is expensive-the motors/tranny's 've shippedin the past averageed $150 but would assume that to be higher now in light of the fuel surcharges.

Do a little market research by looking on ebay to get a feel of what it's worth. I know here a running motor is worth $500 but that is typically for a 350cid.

just do some internet searching to see going rate and go from there.

HCR 1966 327 275 4 powerglide, Rochester Carb

As its the 275hp version its definitely more desireable. Where are you located? Solid small journal small block Chevies are become more and more scarce. You could easily sell it on the left coast. (You might get more than you think.)

Might I suggest posting it for sale on http://www.camaros.net in their free classified section. If you're in the SF Bay Area, I might even consider taking it off your hands.

A small journal 327cid with camel hump heads is worth more than a dime-a-dozen 350cid.

To the right person and maybe trying to get a numbers correct thing going, but anybody looking for any power knows small cubes and antique double humps is decades old news being how run of the mill castings are now outflowing double humps even after they've been hogged out and stuffed with big valves.

We sold a similar set-up out of a 68 camaro about 10yrs ago and got $200 for it complete locally.

boy, they must've seen you coming. that motor is worth 2k, easily. while it may be more of a hassle, in the long run you're more apt to find the right person on a site like ebay than to list it locally. there are more people with more-money-than-brains on ebay, too.

good luck selling.

Agreed. Granted I threw out a 327 two years ago, but then it was only the 210hp version and had serious issues. A rebuildable small journal sbc long block typically sells for $1000 out here. They're still popular in period hot rods and other early 60's iron. (Plus they'll out rev a 350 large journal everyday of the week. )

I've still got a '65 327 in my garage. Nobody wanted to buy it, so I'm gonna let it stick around until I buy a car that's supposed to have it.
