1979 z28 starter

My buddy is replacing the starter in his 79 Z but it isnt a stock engine. Could you all tell me where the starter is located... i know that it is a carburated engine but have never seen this engine. Any websites on how to remove the starter or where it is located would be helpful. Thanks alot.

If it's a small block or big block Chevy, it's on the passenger side. If someone swapped in a Pontiac or Olds, it's on the drivers side. Post a pic if you can't tell what it is.

R&R: disconnect battery, note where wires go at solenoid, unhook wires, remove starter brace (if present), remove 2 bolts. Reverse for install.

The starter bolts are specific, don't substitute other bolts if they need replacement. You can find correct bolts in the Help section of parts strore. A lot of times new starter, will need to be shimmed for proper engagement.

And don't be under the starter when it falls out. Those things are HEAVY.

And you get to it from under the car. You may have to remove or at least loosen the exhaust. As you have a BB you should get the high torque starter replacement starter.
