Headers that big especially for a SBC will be considered a race item and very expensive.

Go with the heddman husler headers 1 3/4 primary to 3 inch collector, worked out perfect in my 76 and they weren't too pricey at all.

any more then that is overkill on a street motor...unless you have a BB or incredible flowing heads.IMO

2" into a 4" collector is what I have on my 460 big block. they are huge, and cost about $1200. anything bigger than 1 3/4" to 3" is overkill for a street small block.

Re: 2" headers with 4-4 1/2" collectors

My BBC had 1-7/8" into a 3" collector. I now have 2-1/4" into a 4" collector but then my engine doesn't start making power until over 4000 rpm. Camshaft specs say valve float is 7800.

What you want is way to big unless you're building a comp eliminator car and spinning the engine over 8000 rpm.

I agree than 1-3/4" into a 3" collector is more than enough for any SBC street engine.

Re: 2" headers with 4-4 1/2" collectors

my dad just put a new 408 BBC in his 69 camaro and he ordered some hooker competition headers for 100 something, VERY inexpensive but they are 2 inch primarys with 3.5 collectors and hes worried they are too big and will lose torque and what not. you dont need any thing that big for a small block. BTW they are huge headers and fit fairly well in his car. made a small dent in the 3rd tube i believe it was on the drivers side for his steering box. however he has manual steering and no a/c or any other crap that gets in the way.

OK. Well that makes it a lot different. You wern't too specific on what type of engine it was going to be. If you're going to invest that kind on money into an engine then $1000+ for a good set of headers is cheap.
