Most of you guys dont know me, i'm a bigger LT1 guy.
I am kinda sick of my LT1, and I love the 69 maro
I would like a car that will GAIN value- well at least not lose it!
I have a nice 383 Lt1 but i am looking at buying this 454 camaro-
are these too high maintinance for a kid to have?
I have new silverado for a daily driver-
this car would see 3000-5000 miles a year and be either covered or in a garage the rest of the time.
I know they rust easy,
but reliablity
maintiance
cost of parts
"do it yourself"ability
any input
(im already going to college, dont want the save the $ go to school speach from you old farts
)

How much do you like working on cars?? 1st gens are great!!! if you can find one with a good body I say go for it!! Your comment about easy rust isnt necessarily accurate, just find one without rust or one that has had GOOD body work, and take care of it. As far as doityourselfness, the car is 35 years old, its ALL do it yourself. These cars are much less complex than the new ones. As far as your age goes, I was 17 when i got my '67 as my first car, and now 2.5 years later she has a kickass LS1 and a 6 speed, so anything is possible.

I think it would be a great investment for you Trey.
Sure you would put a lot of time, blood and sweat into it, but in the end it would be totally worth it.
Also, compared to an LT1, a first gen is a piece of cake to work on.

They're much easier to work on than these new computerized cars. Carbs are a piece of cake, but you will need to tinker... at least once a week to keep it running optimally. (The truth is, you'll want to anyway.) If you want to do less tinkering, opt for a Quadrajet over a Holley Double-pumper.
A 454 crate motor will be totally reliable. Back it with a TH400... unless you want a stick, then I'd go for a Richmond 5 speed. A well built 350 will get you better gas mileage.
As for resale, only the #'s matching stockers hold their value, especially SS's, Z/28's and "specialties".
However, I saw a clean 69 454 powered SS clone sell for $22K recently. (But then as a comparision, I saw a documented 68 Yenko sell for over $100K.)

Go for it trey!
Sure you may get it and after working on it everyday you may want to get rid of it, caus its a pain in the a$$ but its worth it. I have a 350 in my 80 and when I drive it during the summer I swear each day I drive it I have to fix something else. Just know you will always be tinkering with it, but they are a blast to drive!
