10 Bolt Rear Build Up Q's
Well i am having no luck finding a 12 bolt rear, or a 10 bolt rear with 3.73 gears for my 79 TA
i can't afford a new rear (funds need to go towards the motor on my jetski)
i can get a 10 bolt from a 79 that has 2.73 or 2.56 gears for nothing.
i was thinking about building that up, and if i do, could it be strong enough for say maybe 400-500 hp motor, yeah i know the pontiac is more torque then horsepower, but i dont severly beat on it, and right now i am lucky if i am getting 200-250 rwhp
it's a 5spd with 255 60 15 tires and used as a summer weekend toy.
i want to go with cal trac bars too
so i was considering:
3.73 gears again
a better diff, like eaton or auburn?? are they stronger then stock?
in summit's latest catalog they have Moser alloy street axels, and an auluminum pinion yoke
so i would like to consider those
also weld the axel tubes.
think something like that can be strong/stronger? if not stronger then the stock rear?
i would like to use a girdle cover, but not sure if it would work with the stock sway bar, or even if the stock sway will work with cal tracs
so does anyone have any info/ideas to share?
thanks again....
my game plan would be to keep the total under $1500.00
i do need to get the drive shaft re-worked too
i am guessing uptowards 400.00 for that <hopefully they can reapir my aluminum one>
