Please help me find this car...
Sounds like a recurring theme here
but there is obviously good reason for it.
I too once owned a 1979 Camaro Z28, gold in color (no decals) with a built up 350 / 4-speed but in 1989 I was a kid in Seattle who didnt know better and traded it in for a new car. Amazingly my dad (the documentation pack rack) was able to locate the paperwork for the transaction and provided me with the VIN which is 1Q87L9L597054. At the time she wore a Washington personalized license plate NTMID8R.
Now many years have past (17 to be exact) and my wife would like to start a restore project so I thought to myself "Why not try to locate the first love of my life". Problem is I don't have a clue on where to start or any pictures to share - which led me to this fantastic website.
Please, if anyone has any information regarding this car or can offer suggestions of where to direct searches please contact me.

it costs a little money, but I'm almost positive on www.carfax.com you can put in the details of the car, mainly VIN (? about that VIN...it only has 13 characters, is that common for older cars? thought all VINs were 17) and It's around $24.95 or something to find a complete vehicle history i.e. any reports about wrecks, title, owners, mileage when sold, etc. etc. Hope that helps you out in your journey!

Re: CarFax
Chris,
It's true the VIN I posted is only 13-characters thats because it was built in 1979.
Carfax is unable to provide vehicle history information for vehicles manufactured prior to 1981, when the 17 character VIN became standard.
That would have been too easy.
Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else have any ideas?

This is the Matt Murphy I'm talking about.

The gold Z28 is in the employee cars section.

That is one of the nicer looking 1980 Z-28's I've seen. Could be because I'm partial to the gold color.
I'm hoping to get the VIN for my old car run via the local police department this week. Just trying to find an officer willing to "help a brother out".
