95 Camaro Z28 convertible- rebuilt title value
Hello Everyone. I am looking to pick the collective knowledge here to get an idea on what this car is worth and see what I can do with it. I have a 78 camaro and 91 miata and a couple of others and I need to thin the herd.
The car: 1995 Camaro z28, stock engine, t-56, convertible, leather interior. 150k miles
Bought it on a whim 8 years ago mainly for the drivetrain. Guy I bought it from told me one of his friends took off in it and wrecked the nose, hood and rt fender. Air bags deployed. Was totaled by insurance co, repaired and passed inspection by Nevada DMV and issued rebuilt title. I got the car home and after going over it I didn't see any evidence of anything other then what PO said, which surprised me as I thought it was all BS. No frame damage, all suspension points measure good, car ran straight. I put new tires on it and had it aligned and tech said he didn't see anything abnormal. I did the minor repairs and maintenance needed and started driving it, it was even my daily driver for a couple of years with no major problems. Has been mu back up car for last couple of years, but it was rear ended by someone with no insurance. Minor, but PITA, and needs tail lights, rear bump cover and support. Plus engine has oil leaks, starting to smoke, etc for a 150k mile engine.
Now I have had a couple guys tell me to fix it as its worth quite a bit now and they are going up in value and I don;t believe them but then I looked it up in Hagerty's Camaro guide (have 78 insured with them) and they say a #4 car, a driver, is worth 9-10k. Almost fell off my chair.
Now, what do you guys think the rebuilt title would effect the value of the car? lets say one in great condition with clean title is 10K what would an identical car with rebuilt title be worth?
Second, do you guys think it is worth putting the money( I will do all the work) into it to get it back to great shape? I don't want to put 4k in parts into it and not be able to sell it for that, I'd rather pull and rebuild drivetrain and build an Ariel atom like car. I bought it for that or to put in 78, but rebuilt 78 engine and put t-56 in it. But I'd hate to dismantle a good car if someone else would want it. I have the tools and skills to rebuild a car, just don;t know if this one is worth the effort,
Thanks all,
BF
