Question Price check please on 1995 conv 6spd z28 with 95K

im in the gainesville florida area and there is a car in town with 95K miles on it. he says the engine had a blown bearing from the last kid who used it, he only put under 1000 miles on it, so the dad returned the car to the local dealer. the mechanic / dealer then got a 80K lt1 engine from the orlando area and put it in.

the body looks good, it has a new - with in a couple years, maybe 2 at most - tan covert top.

i dont care too much about the extra wing, under lights, 6 inch sub / cd player jazz, and crappy white / clear rear lights (i will get rid of those) that the asian son put on the car.

i just want to know a fair price for a car like this, and if there is any way to tell if the "new" engine really had 80K miles ect.

also, if any of you out there know if this 95 cov 6spd z28 is known to have any problems, major or minor, and if its just a good guy at all.

see, it seems the 1996 ss or z28's all are over priced with the 30th aniversary tag on them. i'm a damn college kid who doesnt want to afford double the price, unless these 1995's aren't worth it / time / money / effort to keep them running.

thanks for your tips guys, or if you have one of these for sale have a price / value you would suggest

As long as it's in good shape, I'd say it's worth about $4500-$5000. Make sure it hasn't had any previous major damage and that it runs, drives, and shifts good. BTW, 1997 is the anniversary, not 1996.

yeah, 1997, becaue the 2002 was the last one with the anniversay tags on it.

i just see online cars for 10,000 or MORE for 96 and 97's with "low" miles.

not many have convertable with 6spd. it was a rare combo. most converts were only V6 for the ladies i guess.

the mechanic / dealer guy got the car from an older man he said. he fixed it all up. it has all the oil, brake, tranny, whatever fluids fixed. the car's top is (he said) 1600 new last year / or two. and it has brand new (when the asian guy bought it for his 18 year old) tires on it, the Z rated 235 / 45 ish? maybe 55 Z R16's.

So the tires alone are probably 600 bucks. 4 wheel disk brakes look nice as well, i figure they are pretty new.

the mechanic guy said he fixed all that stuff either before or after the kid drove it. when he blew a berring in the engine i assume he's gotta redo all the fluids anyway.

the car looks in good shape. i just didnt want to drive it yet and fall in love then drop what he asks for on it if the 1995's werent THAT great in reliability and if you think the car will die on my with in the next 5 years.

i wouldnt mind only using it for the occational florida sun trip to the beach, and drive my beat up sedan to school. but it would be nice to show the car off and have it run for a while longer.

thanks for the price tips, he wants 6000 for it, i figured 5K or a little less was what its worth. those guys on auto trader seem to think everything is worth so so so so so much. like ebay now a days, all over priced retail stores.
