Should I buy it or not?
Should I buy it or not?
Test drove this car today:
1994 Chevrolet Camaro for sale in Perrysburg - 2G1FP22P6R2189768 – Ed Schmidt Volkswagen
They wanted $3700 for it, with taxes, or $1000 + my trade (a 2000 GP GTP with 100k and the beginnings of rust in the rear wheel wells). On the face of it, not a bad deal, but there are a couple of things that make me nervous:
-Check engine light was on, as was the low coolant light, even though the guy said fluids were topped off. He then made a big deal when I suggested the dealer check the code.
- Evidence of a respray in back. Carfax does show an accident in 96.
- No weatherstripping around the hatch. Rug in the trunk was wet. No rust underneath, though.
- Clunking in back when moving. The rear diff looks like it's been worked on.
- Lots of new parts on the engine -- fuel lines, injectors, and exhaust look very recent. Dealer says was done by previous owner. All sounds good, but why would someone do all that work then trade it?
Does all this add up to a basket case? Or am I describing pretty routine, relatively mild issues for a Camaro this old? It did run strong (clutch is slipping a bit though). I don't mind a fixer upper but don't want another POS that needs a lot more work than it's worth.

Re: Should I buy it or not?
Well id stay away just because of the low coolant light myself. Not saying it couldnt be a bad sensor or an intake leak, but possible head gasket?. Plus it is a dealer asking 3700 for it and i know members on here sell way nicer LT cars for around 4000-4200 a lot. Thats just my opinion. Good Luck
Re: Should I buy it or not?
Lots of nice camaros in the toledo area . I just purchased a 99 rs for 1025.00 w / bad motor 600.00 later i have a good motor. After a 6 hour clean job it loks like brand new.I have purchsed 4 camaros since labor day. I will have a another 99 for sale with 74000 miles in the next couple weeks. If interested reply back Todd
Re: Should I buy it or not?
I'd have the codes read.. the low coolant light is normal . The sensor in the radiator was notorious for going bad. Mine on my 96 is doing that right now. If the code is something simple to check I'd do it.
Re: Should I buy it or not?
I actually purchased this car in January of 2012 and let me just say, this z28 is mint. Still has zero rust underneath, paint is still very shiny, like new, and have had zero problems with it since I purchased it. The low coolant sensor was what the problem was making the low coolant light come on. The rear end has never clunked, what so ever since the day I bought it, maybe it had been repaired since.
Currently I have the front of the car off and was looking for the right paint code so I can touch up the only chip on the vehicle, the front bumper cover and typed in my vin to be directed to this forum. The reason the front is off the car is because I just cammed it....
