In your opinion who makes the best sounding subs?

I use to only buy JL audio until their quility went to crap. I like kicker but Im done with the high school base. I'm looking for good sound and base if I want it, in a single 12.

well of the higher end stuf that i have heard.....

ID Max, Eclipse Aluminum, Adire Brahma, Stereo Integrity Magnum D2, and Elemental Designs 12A

All are fantastic, i would love to run any of them (and i have had them all in my car for extended times, and currently run the Elemental Designs 12 A), but here is my rankings of them...

Best sounding- Adire Brahma
Best Value- Elemental Designs A series
best looking- ID Max

Like i said can't go wrong with any.....

rthompson got it on lock....lol. I'm a HUGE fan of the Adire Audio brand of subs. Listening to a shiva (12") in a 3.0 cu.ft. box sounds SWEEEEEEET. My friend owns the shiva, and also a tempest (15") that he installed in a sonotube (nearly 6 foot tall ported enclosure) All I can say is that they are very impressive. I think 1 shiva in a large sealed box is the way I'd go.

I don't believe you. I just purchased JL Audio amps and speakers for my bird after listening to almost everything on the market and I went with JL Audio. My ears don't lie and money was no object for my sound system.

Adire Audio is bought through adireaudio.com and they have a list of local dealers, if there is not any local dealers i would contact webmaster@soundillusions.net since he is a dealer and he will get you anything you want for the lowest prices allowed.

Elemental Designs items are available through edesignaudio.com

Both have a 3 year warranty on their subs.

sounddomain.com has the Image Dynamics stuff

stereointegrity.com sells the MagnumD2 (2 year warranty i think)

Eclipse is not easily found online... good luck

Just because someone disagrees with your OPINION is no reason to get pissy..... i don't think JL has gone to crap, but that is also my opinion, and the only thing that i hear that JL sells that is up to par with what i listed is the W7..... sorry to hear that you overpaid for your amps, at least your system matches tho....

Don't forget that the enclosure is the most important part of a subwoofer system. The best sub in the world will sound like crap if it isn't in the proper sized and well constructed box.

Thanks for the input guys. The reason I dont like JL is beacause I owned the old w6 series and loved them, they lasted 5 years. I bought some of the new ones and blew them in 1yr.

I have the Kicker Comp 12s and they hit deeper, harder and cleaner than Rockfords and JLs. Now this is only my opinion and it has mostly to do with the enclosure you have.

My two 12s hit 145 db the other day in a competition and the guy told me that was the cleanest 145 db he has ever heard.

i was a fan of JL's, i want to try adire's brahma, but to this day, the best sounding sub i've had is the RE XXX.
i don't want to here BS about it, most people don't know the XXX wasn't designed for spl, it was design for SQ, just not too many people try an SQ box with it, i tuned mine to 25hz and loved it!

DITTO AS WELL

and a side note, the most precise hitting subs i've heard were 3 JL10w3's sealed.

This is a good example of why matching the enclosure to the sub is so important. I had a JL 10W3 in my Vantage Stealthbox originally. I replaced it with an Alpine Type-S and it totally outperforms the JL in this enclosure. The JL is a good sub but the Type-S is a better match for the .6 cubic feet of my enclosure.
