Wiring the amp
Wiring the amp
I read about wiring on a post below and it reminded me of a question I needed to ask. How should I wire my amp and subs? Parallel or Series
I have a fosgate 200M amp and 2 fosgate 10" Z subs
I have a fosgate 200M amp and 2 fosgate 10" Z subs
They are 400W subs, 4 OHMS. They have 2 voice coils I believe. Also can I just use speaker wire to wire them to the box and then from the box to the sub. Im not really sure what voice coils are to tell you the truth and have no idea how to wire them. This is all new to me. Why did I read that you can wire the voice coils in series and the subs in parallel? I thought that the voice coils were part of the subs? If anyone can explain this in depth to me it would be appreciated. Thanks!

You "believe"? We need to know for sure before any recommendations can be made.

What else is there to wire speakers together other than speaker wire?

VC's are what the signal passes thru and makes the cone move.

Because those are 2 of the options available to you for connecting speakers.

Go to JL Audio and read the tutorials to learn more about connecting speakers together.

On the sub it has one + and one -, Would that mean it is single voice coil?

If each sub is 4ohms then you would want to connect them in parallel (+ to + and - to -). This will give you a 2ohm load. You need to make sure that the amp you use can drive a 2ohm load. If it can't you will need to wire the subs in series for an 8ohm load which really isn't recommended. Connecting an 8ohm load to the amp will cut your amp's power output by about half.
