WIRES?/INSTALL questions

I am looking to get the MTX 801d to push my sony xplods xs l1246 they arent the best subs but i got them a year ago at a really good price and havent used them yet bc i just recently got my cd player installed they 801d is rated to push 800w rms at 2ohm and 400w rms at 4 ohm my subs are 4 ohm and rated at 400w rms, prob overated but o well my question is are my wires for now enough to handle them at 4ohm i have some fostgate wires in right now 8 gauge says up to 500 watts and everywhere i see about the amp it says it requires 4 guage wires is that bc is used at 2 ohm you'll need it so are my wires good enough for now to handle 400rms or should i replace them now instead of when i get new subs

the other q is about the install on my cd player and speakers i have a 94 camaro with the 3 spk bose system i have heard that when i get my cd player in i will need to replace the speakers up front and have the wires reran b/c of something about the amp thats built in-not quite sure what tho so when i got it put in, they replace my front 2 spk's and i thought id only have two but my back left one still works is it tru about having to rewire them or not bc i heard that if you dont it can make you stuff go bad

thanks for yall help

You can get away with it, but its obviously not reccomended. Youre better off to do it right the first time, than have to redo it later..

I wouldn't run your amps at a 2 ohm load....it will create lots of heat and reduce the life of your amp. If you do, you will really need good power wire and a stiffening cap. If you take two 4 ohm subs and wire them in parallell, you will end up with a 2 ohm load. If you run them in series, you will have an 8 ohm load. I would personally run the left sub to the left chan and the right to the right chan. But that is my personal opinion and works for me. Obviously if you want to produce the most noise, you would bridge your amp and run the subs in parallell....I wouldn't do it.

I believe the MTX class D amps are 2 ohm stable. Id be more worried about the Sony subs before the amp. It was designed to run at 2ohm, and take a beating. Those MTX amps are extremly solid.

If it were me, and as much as it might suck, wait till you can afford the 4ga kit. The power flow kit we have at work, is $59.99, and is Fosgate. You can even go to a flea market or similar and get one of their kits cheaper. Damn near identical stuff.

Cant tell what you got goin on with that...
Just tie the neg of sub 1&2 together and the pos of sub 1&2 together. and run those to your amp. You will have to look on the directions of how to bridge your amp. On my PPIs for example, you would use the right channel POS for the positive and Left chan NEG for the negative.

by doing what you just said, they will make my 4ohm subs into 2 ohms or what?

damn with the 801d that would destroy my sonys bc it pushes 800w rms at 2ohm and my sonys claim 400w rms does anyone know of any subs that dont cost way to much, that are 12s and a circle and dont need a box made out of a stronger wood because of the weight of the magnet

also how can i run the sonys at a 4 ohm til i get new subs

Just keep the gains low. My friend has 2 Sony 12's on a DEI 1100D. Yes, 300wrms more than you. They handle it fine. Just be smart, and dont push them too hard. Go to www.JLAudio.com and check out their 'Tutorials', they have a ton of INFO about sub wiring.

What are you looking to spend on new subs? Im sure we could all come up with something that would work well and sound good for you.

Chances are that 801 is 800wrms @ 12.5, you give that thing 13.8+v and its pushing a lot more power. MTX is very conservative like that.

There have been pleanty of 1000d's that have giuve 2-3-400 wrms more than rated.
